November is a busy month for me, so busy that I have no pre prepared things to share with you so instead I am just going to show you ALL the things that I have used as inspiration this month… fascinating stuff right? well its important to me to save them somewhere so on my blogs as good as any. Half of the these images I cant even recall the jobs I saved them for anymore but the fact that the images are in folders on my computer labeled with people’s names or ‘bathroom sink idea’ , or ‘John… kitchen project’ means that I used them in some way or another, and here they are:
If one more person reminds me precisely how many days there are left until christmas I am going to stab them in the eye with the heel of my shoe. Infact I am going to make sure I wear my most obnoxious of heels for the remaining days just in preparation for it. I am not going to tell you how many there days there are left, but let me assure you I KNOW, I know because every second fucking customer in the showroom that I work in thinks it s a great conversation starter to mention it and then ask if I am “all ready for christmas?” with a big dumb ‘I’m-so-happy- look on their face’ (no, no I am not ready for christmas) or “where am I off to for christmas time” none of your business is where, now did you want to buy something otherwise piss off so i can get some work done I am on a deadline here and YOU buddy are not helping me by loitering here talking about santa.
Can you tell I am not looking forward to christmas time ?
This is not another wanky design blog.
Go ahead – have a look through my things, read a little of what I have to say, or go stalker mode and read a lot. You might like something, or not . I promise you there are plenty of other design blogs just a few google clicks away so don’t feel compelled to hang around if this not your thing.
I don’t harp on about things being divine or cute or reference “scrumptious” as a description of how colour’s look next to each other. I do share things that I like and my opinion of what works or does not. I am a (mostly) positive passionate person and believe that my design style reflects this.
This blog is my space to share the things that I like, that interest me and things that make me happy. It’s pretty simple really.
This magazine cover has been sitting on my coffee table all month (under a stack of crumpled newspapers, a faded floral headband i wear all the time, an orange comb and some takeaway menus ive been meaning to stick on the side of the fridge) the cover has slowly grown on me like a friends pet cat, I didn’t really like it that much to start with, it was ok, it didn’t offend me but it didn’t really APPEAL to me or grab me in any way either, it was just always kind of there and in your face and the more i looked at it the more interesting it started to become until now nearly 3 weeks later i actually have come to like it (the mag cover I mean AND the cat). So anyway I’ve found that I have been attracted to certain items lately (like yellow lounges, faux fur, cane armchairs and unusual pendant lights) when I have been sourcing bits and bobs for clients jobs (of which i have had 3 this month) but it was only when I went to do a cleanup of my desktop items that it dawned on me just how much this cover has subliminally influenced me. Just take a look at the below images and you will see for yourself, I have replicated parts of this cover without even realising it!
Also whilst browsing the net for basket type baskets i came across a gorgeous little blog with lots of things I like, it is called Design plus you and has lots of good reads to be had.
This month I have been in Tasmania for a girls trip that included my mother, my grandmother and my partners mother. My mother was celebrating her 60th birthday, my dear Nanna her 80th and Maurz (the mother in-law) and I well we were just along for the fun of it.
Tasmania is without a doubt the prettiest place that I have ever been to and I can honestly say that I felt inspired every day that I was there, it is like a paradise for creative souls with its natural beauty every direction you look in. The architecture, the countryside, the furniture and the food had me completely enthralled, i just cannot recommend this place highly enough and can’t wait to get back there.
Most of this month has been spent either on holiday or preparing for my holiday so it’s been a very happy month.
If you live in Darwin going to Bali is kind of like going to an outer suburb or the next small town, its a 2 hour flight and the climate is the same so to me Bali is just an extension of Darwin- just cheaper and with friendlier people.
Whilst over there I do what I always do on holidays and discussed all the ideas I’ve had throughout the year that I haven’t quite managed to get around to yet, all the “things we should be doing” and all the things we could do and then made grand plans for the future, blabbered away and then ordered another pina colada and forgot about it all. Was great! the stuff dreams are made of …. these are some if the ideas I’ve had since then.
I came across this blog that featured a home mostly furnished with Bali items and love how tastefully it is done- view the full story here.
