12.2.17 ‘Design decisions’

People pay me to make decisions about the look and feel of their homes, businesses, bars, restaurants, weddings, parties, or branding. I don’t take this responsibility on lightly as I give a part of me away with every project that I work on. The rare ones that I feel I have nothing of benefit to offer a client I simply don’t take on so for the ones that I do take on I always feel a little lost and slightly sad at the completion of a project, like I am farewelling a cherished friend.

Here are examples of some of the decisions I have made for people the past month.

Out there or pared back?

Light or dark?

Bold or classic?

Minimalist or eclectic?

1 colour cabinets or all the colour cabinets?

Blue or green?

Traditional or quirky?

Warm or cool exterior?

Which branding colour?

Sunflowers or peonies?

Which dining chairs?

Which sink?

Which tile?

There may have been other decisions but they are the ones I can think of and that I that were resolved.

The one decision I have really struggled with though is a long standing one that I think many people struggle with and it involves buying a new sofa for my own home. I am so over saturated with design, colours, ideas and styles that selecting a long term new addition to our house is one I really struggle committing too. Now, colour decisions aside (tan or grey I managed to narrow this down to)  … But do we go fabric or leather? Ohhhh the struggle is real.
