Sunday session 26.6.16 ‘Confessions’

Confessions of my week:

On monday I slept in past 6am for the first time in months. I hit snooze 4 times and got up at 6:20 and it was bloody awesome. No regrets! I still finished all my work for the day by 11am and off I went to the commercial firm to get on with work there.

I ignored 11 phone calls and watched the phone ring out and go to message bank. Distractions are not welcome when I am on a creative roll and I have been on a big one. Text or email is the way to get hold of me I dislike phone calls.

I bit my tongue way more than is usually possible for me because I was too busy to hang around and couldn’t be bothered arguing the facts so instead I got in my car and sung really loudly (and badly) all the way home to get rid of my frustration, works a treat!

I glared at a child and made him cry. Then I felt like that was a win to me. (Yes.. nasty I know) This child belongs to a client whose house I had just signed off on and as we were air kissing and chatting and taking ages to say our goodbyes this little boy hits my very cute NEW truck with a rake! … so in my defence the little bastard had it coming.

Home styled

By Wednesday I had piled crap up on my desk so high that I couldn’t see my computer screen behind it. Instead of putting it all away neatly I just transferred it all to the fold out sofa that sits beside my desk (so that I can nap when I am worn out from being a creative genius) annnnd there it still sits waiting for me to have a clean out.

On Thursday I seriously contemplated cutting a potential client off mid sentence with a karate chop!! to the neck after suffering through 20 minutes of him droning on about a home office remodel he wanted to do in order to paint his model soldiers in …. and then he continued on with all about where these soldiers came from…(?) and who he shipped them to australia here via, the guy was talking couriers with me  (it was at this point I imagined the karate chop) as I had WAY more important things to be doing. Needless to say I will not be working with this guy for fear I may actually attack him.

On Friday I was so chained-to-my-desk busy that I lived on coffee and cake all day between the hours of 8 and 5. That is 2 huge slices of  home made carrot cake, 3 coffees plus a milo to be precise.

I have decided I like about 60% of my commercial clients at any given time. This figure fluctuates though depending how many times they call me in the one day or how many dumb emails I get from them.

On that note I wasted 3 precious minutes writing a really snarky sarcastic reply to a really silly email, I read it to myself, lost it laughing, felt fleetingly bad and then very carefully deleted each word and rewrote a ‘business appropriate’ reply instead.

I have also decided that I like about 95% of my residential clients and end up ‘matesy matesy’ with more than half of them once the job has been completed which tells me I need to do more residential work and less commercial.

Lastly I missed 2 deadlines this week. 1 by about an hour so that was no big deal and all was well in the end. The other by a whole day after I got the due dates wrong which tells me I have taken on too many jobs again and I need to be more selective in the clients and projects that I take on. I am nearing the end of 2 months that have been fully booked out so it’s fair to say I am ready for a little break.

If you need design assistance please don’t leave it to the last minute … it just pisses everyone off, mostly me…and your too builder if he doesn’t get the info that he needs so contact me with lots of notice to get the best result. If I can’t help people I am ALWAYS happy to pass you on to other talented designer friends who can help you.

That’s it from me this week, Much love to you all for a happy day!
